Who is Theo?
She's a dreamer, teacher and likes to entertain. One day while she was working in the graphic design industry she realized, despite all the awards won and accolades received, she was burnt out. She wanted a different life—one that channeled her Greek heritage and combined her loves: the art of food, from the ground to the package design and dinner table.
Back in the mid-90s, before the movie Sideways put Santa Ynez Valley on the map, Theo Stephan had come to this little valley full of cattle and sunshine and dreamed of an ideal life. She wondered if she could buy some land, plant olive trees and make EVOO. Just like in the Mediterranean. She'd farm. She'd press. She'd entertain. And she'd keep dreaming.
Theo plunged head first and in 1998 founded Global Gardens® and the world’s first mail-order Olive Oil & Vinegar quarterly food club offering more than just EVOO, The Olive Revolution®. For the club, she shared her own recipes with each season’s EVOO, balsamic fruit vinegars, and gourmet food selections. She opened a store in the town of Los Olivos.
Theo continues educating people on how to cook healthy, flavorful recipes in an easy-to-understand style, focusing on what’s fresh and in season. For her first cookbook, Olive Oil & Vinegar For Life: Delicious Recipes for Healthy Caliterranean™ Living, Theo wrote the definitive book on vinegars and extra-virgin olive oils and took the photos.
She has two daughters, biological sisters she adopted from Nepal in 2001: Sunita is the family gate keeper, organizer and documentarian; and Anita who now produces weekly batches of Ani's Olive Oil Ice Cream, creating new flavors every season! Also part of the family are Cleo, the long-haired sable & black German Shepherd who is the senior taste-tester of Theo's most high-protein recipes, and Zac the 17-pound behemoth cat who thinks he is a dog and loves fruit barbecued with the Pomegranate Glaze.
