Global Gardens Foodie Passport, Chania, Crete Friday June 15 through Sunday June 17, 2018
Let's meet up for an incredible 3 days of touring, tasting, learning, experiencing, eating phenomenal meals, laughing, dancing and enriching our lives with the sustainable agricultural lifestyle of several Cretan family businesses. We’ll meet makers of traditional Cretan delicacies off the beaten path that only Theo knows about, tour the local Agora and have a great time together. Our last day will end at the gorgeous Astrikas Estate, home of Biolea and Theo’s olive-growing mentor. Theo & her co-author, Christina Xenos, will help prepare an immense meal from their OPA! HEALTHY GREEK COOKBOOK. Live Greek music will accompany traditional Cretan dancers, local, biodynamic wines (you will visit the wineries!) and craft beer (yes you will visit them too) will accompany our feast.
This 3-day "passport" will focus on the prefecture of Chania. Fly into the Chania International Airport (CHQ) where you should stay in the port town of Chania which is of Venetian history. You're welcome to stay in Platanias, especially if you want to rent a car and be directly on the beach vs the old port town. Theo is staying in Chania; and staying there for a few days is our highest recommendation.
http://www.booking.com is a wonderful resource we use 95% of the time when booking accommodations anywhere in the world. Air bnb has some great apartments too. Prices in Chania range from relatively inexpensive, 30 euro/night to exclusive, 300 euro/night. Please note that even the super inexpensive studio apartment or suite-style hotels are usually clean and, while spartan, quite sufficient--you'll only be sleeping there! This is a fun, high-energy town with so much to see and do, outdoors. There is a cute beach within walking distance of the town, tons of winding, old cobblestone streets to spend days shopping and tasting at all the little bakeries and restaurants.
Our 3-day Global Gardens Passport to Chania Crete Includes:
- Wine tasting and mezze, Dourakis Winery
- Wine tasting and lunch, Manousakis Winery
- Beer tasting and lunch, Charma Brewery
- Dinner, OPA! FEAST at Biolea, Astrikas Estate, dancing to live music, ground transport to and from dinner.
A schedule of open hours, days and arrival timeframes for each location will be provided by May 15, 2018. Transportation to each winery and brewery is not provided. You may rent a car, or Theo will provide excellent taxi references for ground transport.
Ground transport IS provided to and from dinner at Biolea, June 17.
Arrive any date you like and leave any date you like, but make sure your schedule is open to use your Global Gardens Passport to Chania on the days scheduled, June 15-17, 2018.
After your ticket purchase, we'll email you a form where we'll collect your contact info as well as where you'll be staying. Please provide a working email address OR cell number where we can text you or email you while you're traveling.
Theo will also send along a list of her favorite restaurants and things to do while on the island. After our weekend, Theo is going to Rethymno, which is another ancient village she loves. Feel free to tag along and meet up with her there for drinks or dinner!
This event is happening rain or shine and no refunds are available after ticket purchase. Tickets may be transferred to another person; however, we must be notified in writing made to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 15, 2018 of any transfers or changes.
